After decades concentrating on figurative painting (Fauna)—my work abruptly shifted in response to major traumatic life events, leading to my Factory Made series in cut-paper. When I found my way back to painting, I had acquired a new-found fascination with the energetic healing properties of bright vibrant colors and reducing realistic forms to simple shapes to build scrambled, vibrating, multidimensional abstractions. After discovering a new side of my late mother, based on her record collection, I made a series of 'portraits' using audio and visual experimentation—“LP’s” (Lenticular Portraits). While listening to every record in the order in which she left them, I painted still lifes of the record’s spines leaning, letting the music guide my hand and color selection. I revisit this series when I need to hit a reset button, turning off the phone, the computer, and turning up the stereo full-volume (Studio Juke Box) .
